I love running. It is also good for our health. The benefits of running are helping to build strong bones, strengthen muscles, help maintain a healthy weight etc. So, when we talk about running how can we forget Milkha Singh. Milkha Singh was an Indian track and field sprinter who was introduced to the sport while serving in the army. He was the only athlete to win gold at the Asian Games as well as Commonwealth Games. He was also known as the Flying Sikh.

Milkha Singh teaches us that how important is 1 minute, 1 second and 0.1 seconds. 1 second is not important for us but it’s a different story for Athletes like Milkha Singh. On Sep 6, 1960, the Olympics were going on, there was a 400m race that time. Everybody was pretty sure that Milkha Singh is going to win. The race began, Milkha Singh ran as fast as he could but he lost. He lost the medal by 0.1 seconds. He came forth at that race. That was the saddest moment for him.

Just Imagine, you are running in a race. The winner gets a big, shiny and heavy trophy. And you lost the trophy by 0.1 seconds. How sad it would be. Ask the value of 1 minute to a student who misses theirs by reaching late at school, to a person who gets late to catch their flight and ask the value of 1 second to the athlete who misses their medal by 1 second or less than it.

If you’re a sportsman, it is necessary to struggle for a medal. You can’t achieve your target without struggling. This was also taught by Milkha Singh. There’s also a movie made on Milkha Singh named Bhag Milkha Bhag which means Run Milkha Run. Milkha Singh died on 18 June 2021 but we can never forget his name. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you all next time.
