Story – 99 Gold Coins

Once there lived a farmer and a Businessman. The businessman lived a luxurious lifestyle but was not happy at all. On the other hand, there lived a poor farmer but he was very happy. He uses to sing while working on the farm with no worries.

The businessman asked his manager “The farmer is poor but why is he so happy and I am so rich but why am I not happy?”. The manager asked the businessman to keep a bag of 99 gold coins on the doorstep of the farmer’s house. The businessman agreed and kept a bag of 99 gold coin on his doorstep.

When the farmer saw the bag, he was extremely happy. He began to count them. After several counts, he was at last convinced that there were only 99 coins. He wondered that ‘What could’ve happened to that last gold coin? Surely, no one would leave 99 coins!’

He started looking for the one gold coin but that final coin was elusive. Finally, the farmer decided that he’s going to work hard to earn the 100th coin.

From that day, the farmer was completely changed. He was grumpy, overworked and blamed his family for not helping him to earn the 100th coin. He could do anything for that one coin.

At first, he uses to bring balloons and toys for his children but now he stopped even bringing that as he doesn’t want to was a single coin. He asked his wife to bring very less grocery and wear only the old clothes and slippers and no need to buy anything new.

When the Businessman saw this, he was shocked. He saw that the farmer was not happy anymore. He asked his manager that he has money but why he isn’t happy. His managers smiled and said “When a person has money, he is not sufficient with that. He always tries to earn more and due to these worries, he doesn’t stay happy. You are also an example of this. You always try to become richer but you’re not sufficient with what you have.” The businessman understood everything.

After this, the businessman was changed. He donates money to schools and helps children in their education. He uses to donate clothes and food to the poor. And most importantly, he told everything to the farmer that he has only kept the 99 gold coins bag and also told everything. The farmer learnt a new lesson and returned the bag of coins.
