The full from of Amul is Anand Milk Union Ltd.  As a result, Kaira District Milk Union Limited was born in 1946 (later renamed to Amul). AMUL means “priceless” in Sanskrit. The brand name “Amul,” from the Sanskrit “Amoolya,” was suggested by a quality control expert in Anand. Variants, all meaning “priceless”, are found in several Indian languages. Amul products have been in use in millions of homes since 1946. Amul Butter, Amul Milk Powder, Amul Ghee, Amulspray, Amul Cheese, Amul Chocolates, Amul Shrikhand, Amul Ice cream, Nutramul, Amul Milk and Amulya have made Amul a leading food brand in India. The Amul Girl was created by Eustace Fernandes, the art director of DaCunha Communications in 1966, the same year the simple yet catchy phrase “Utterly Butterly” was coined by Sylvester’s wife, Nisha DaCunha. Amul is a big brand and it does not only have plant in Anand but it is widely spread across the India. Amul collects the milk from farmers every day. In every village there is village cooperative which collects and store the milk in bulk coolers and through tankers it is transferred to dairy plant. If the dairy plant is far from the village cooperative then to prevent the milk quality, they have established chiller plant in between the village cooperative and dairy plant. After the milk is received in plant then it is checked through various tests like chemical, microbiological, adulteration etc and if quality is proper then only transferred in the plant.

Once it is received in the plant then it is converted into processed milk and various products. Every dairy plant of Amul has different sections like Processed milk, Cheese, Butter, Dahi or curd, Ice cream etc. According to the requirement milk is send to particular section and from it various product is produced.

If I talk about purity then Amul follows the standards of FSSAI which means the product should be of proper quality. Samples are taken from each batch of each product and then various tests are carried out to know if that product complies with standards or not. If it has proper quality then only that batch is transported to the market. So, there is no any question about the impurity in the product. India’s largest dairy cooperative brand at its state-of-the-art plants. Through its Cow to Consumer model of operation it connects milk procured from 3.6 Million farmers to 1 Billion homes.
